Free Hand Art
Free Hand Art
The Freehand Arts Project is a group of volunteers committed to bringing the creative arts to people incarcerated in Texas prisons. Our program strives to address the deep wounds found in the incarceration system by providing a safe avenue for self-reflection, the opportunity to develop emotional awareness, and a supportive community. Our classes give inmates the experience of control and introspection through art, allowing them to engage in the world more confidently and authentically. Our project employs highly qualified volunteers to teach weekly creative arts classes in Austin and Dallas jails. Our program has inspired hundreds of inmates and officers, who have created anthologies, a jailhouse newsletter and creative writing contests.
For over 30 years, Freehand Gallery has been devoted to Fine American Craft. We currently represent over 300 artists who live and work in the United States. From the famous artist to the emerging artist - and from coast to coast - our eclectic group of fine craftsmen and artists has filled Freehand Gallery with a spectacular and unique array of one of a kind gifts you'll be proud to give (and tempted to keep!). You will consistently find a wide range of handmade ceramics, handblown glass, hand crafted wood, fiber-based work including clothing and accessories, metal-based art and jewelry finely crafted using precious and semi-precious stones.
With art objects ranging from functional to decorative and from traditional to modern and/or architectural in style, there will always be something new and interesting to discover.
